Close your eyes.
Usually, that’s when the visual world disappears.
Lucia Light creates an entirely different experience.
With your eyes comfortably closed, carefully controlled patterns of light can produce an extraordinary internal landscape of colour, shape, movement and geometric imagery.
No screen.
No picture being projected for you to watch.
And yet you may experience an astonishing world of visual activity behind closed eyes.
What Is Lucia Light Therapy?
Lucia Light uses a specialised light device to create changing patterns and intensities of light while you rest with your eyes closed.
The interaction between the light and your visual system can create what feels like an internal visual experience.
You may perceive vivid colours.
Geometric forms.
Flowing patterns.
Movement.
Or something completely different.
Perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of Lucia Light is that the experience is individual.
Someone beside you could experience the same sequence differently.
Even your own experience may change from one session to another.
Do I Need to Know How to Meditate?
No.
There isn’t a meditation technique you need to master.
You don’t have to control your thoughts.
You don’t need to visualise anything.
You simply become comfortable, close your eyes and allow yourself to experience what unfolds.
People who already enjoy meditation may find the experience particularly interesting, but meditation experience isn’t a prerequisite.
What Am I Supposed to Experience?
Nothing in particular.
And that’s worth emphasising.
When we hear someone describe vivid colours, extraordinary patterns or a deeply meditative experience, it’s easy to arrive expecting the same thing.
But your experience doesn’t need to resemble theirs.
It might feel visually intense.
It might become very still.
You may notice your breathing or become more aware of your body.
You may lose track of time.
Or you may simply think the whole thing is fascinating.
There isn’t a correct Lucia Light experience.
Holding the External Space
Lucia Light is particularly interesting in the context of holding space.
The practitioner can create and maintain the external environment—helping you become comfortable, supporting appropriate use of the light and remaining present during the experience.
But what happens internally belongs to you.
It doesn’t need to be interpreted for you.
It doesn’t need to become profound.
And you don’t need to manufacture an emotional or spiritual response.
There can be value in simply experiencing something.
A Break From Looking Outward
Much of our attention is directed away from ourselves.
Screens.
Work.
Messages.
People.
Things requiring decisions.
Lucia Light offers a striking reversal.
Your eyes close to the external visual world while an unexpected experience of colour and movement can emerge internally.
For some people, this may create an opportunity for stillness and deep relaxation.
For others, curiosity itself is enough.
Is Lucia Light for Everyone?
No.
Because Lucia Light involves light stimulation, screening matters.
Certain neurological conditions, seizure history, pregnancy, implanted electrical devices and some psychiatric circumstances are among the considerations identified by Lucia’s published safety guidance. Other circumstances—including particular medications, migraines with aura and significant light sensitivity—warrant discussion before a session.
So although Lucia Light can look wonderfully simple—lie back, close your eyes and experience the light—responsible practice begins before the light is switched on.
At Soul Recovery Service in Wauchope, Lucia Light is one of several ways Joel Mervyn-Jones explores stillness, awareness and connection through sensory experience.
Where the body remembers how to heal.
